Soot: Rivers Taskforce Discovers 12 Illegal Refineries in Isiokpo, Another in Emohua

About 12 illegal refining dump sites were on Wednesday, discovered in Isiokpo community and raided by a TaskForce set up by the Ikwerre Local Government Council Authority, acting on the orders of Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to an eyewitness, the council Chairman, Samuel Nwanosike led security personnel to the sites and directed that one of the Kpofire dumps be set ablaze as deterrent to others still operating undercover.

In a related development, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd also on Wednesday, raided a newly constructed illegal Artisanal (Kpofire) refinery in Rumuji.

Activities from illegal refineries is one of the major reasons for the prevalent Soot in Rivers State.

Lloyd who led security operatives to the site regretted the proliferation of the crime in the state while stressing the zero tolerance of his administration for the practice.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Chief Obarilomate Ollor has declared that there is no bunkering activity in the council area.

Ollor spoke in a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday.
